Salvete! Greetings Everyone!

I am just writing a few words to introduce myself. Some of you will already know me from personal contact at the First Poznan Pagan Conference in May.

I am a (Graeco-)Roman Neo-pagan, a follower of the Religio Romana, and if anyone has any questions about this tradition, I will be happy to try to answer. I am also a Quaker Pagan (Quagan).

I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and also lived in Colorado and Hawai'i, as well as in Taiwan for 14 years (I am also a Taoist). My academic specialisations are Comparative Intercultural Philosohy and Linguistics. I teach in the Linguistics Institute of Adam Mickiewicz University.

I have been a pagan for approximately 8 years, and have just been approved as a new member of the Pagan Federation together with mu Polish wife, Maia.

I look forward to meeting more of you at the Poznan Moot or future pagan conferences. I a, posting this in the English Corner of the Pagan Forum because I do not know Polish. If anyone reading this would feel more comfortable in another, third, langauge, I would attempt to answer a personal message or e-mail in Latin, Esperanto, Mandarin (Big 5 traditional chatacter coding), French, German or Japanese.

There is more information on my paganism at my web site: http://www/amu/edu/pl/~bmaurus/neopagan.hrml

Optime valete! (May you all fare excellently well!)

Marcus Apollonius Silvanus

(Bradius V. Maurus III)

Welcome, Bradius (or which of your names should we address you?)

Well, it is nice to read someone in English here at the Polish PF forum, to know there are actually foreigners living in Poland and enjoying paganism. I myself am Scottish-Polish, married to a Polish boy, and to tell you the truth - I really feel the need of fruitful conversations in English on subjects concerning modern paganism.

Especially beacuse I recognise myself as representative of the druidic path, which, in a great part, deals with the English language both in rite and philosophic discourse. So it would be so, so nice to meet you at some pub moot soon, and your wife, too! I must say, it is truely a beautiful thing that you two have managed to find each other despite different nationalities, as man and wife, within the pagan faith.

One thing I find worth discussing is your idea of adapting Stoa to modern times. I have been doing lots of research on that subject, the idea was presented to me in 2003 by Dr Tomasz Mazur (Warsaw University Intitute of Philosophy) who is a great advocate of modern stoicism and believes one could use it in methodology of teaching young people. At that time I was 17, and inspired by his great ideas, I took part in the Polish Philosophy Olympiad. Ha! I even got awarded for modern appliances of stoicism, which was my essay's subject. Perhaps I should translate it into English some day.

Anyway, I liked your essays on your website, although I have a slight feeling they require some kind of introduction, with explanation of main terms and definitions.

Dear Annelie, Lilimarq, Sheila, Tin, and Shadow,

Thank you all very much for making me feel welcome here. I have finally got an internet connection at home, so I hope to be here in the Corner more often in future.

Tin:
I am glad you found what I had to say on Stoicism interesting. There is a growing Stoic movement in the world these days, some of it supported by very serious academic philosophers, with a strong grass-roots base. I myself have been repositioning my Stoicism as a sort of basis for pagan philosophy and life, while concentrating more on Neo-Platonism (Plotinus, Iamblichus, Proclus) for their mystical and magickal (theurgic) teachings.

I am interested in learning more about your path of Druidism, too.

Shadow:

No, I am not expert to any degree in Stregheria, but I do know someone who was raised from childhood in this tradition in America (by an Italian immigrant family) and later moved into a more orthodox Religio Romana path. Stregheria is in a way a continuation of certain popular forms of Roman paganism.

I look forward to hearing from you all here, and I usually attend the Poznan moots.

Bene valete and Blessed Be!

Hi Apollonius,
it's nice to meet you here. I have subscribed to the forum today myself.
I follow the Slavic reconstructionist path myself, but I am interested in all
traditions, especially the reconstructionist ones. I'd like to learn more about
Religio Romana, and if you're interested in Slavic path, well I can share my
knowledge with you.
Cheers,
w.
